Rhinovirus Infection in EpiAirway
Immunofluorescence micrographs of transverse sections of EpiAirway shows RV-A16 replication. Positive immunofluorescence staining for mabj2 (green) was not observed in uninfected control tissues (top panel), but was observed in RV-A16 infected tissues (bottom panel); DAPI staining in blue shows cell nuclei. (Green in top panel is autofluorescence of membrane; membrane in bottom panel detached during processing and is not shown.)
In a collaboration between MatTek and Merck, HRV-challenged EpiAirway
recapitulated gene response profiles of human clinical HRV infection.
  • EpiAirway's ciliated apical surface provides a more in-vivo-like environment to study respiratory infection.
  • EpiAirway is readily infected with HRV.
  • RNA-seq analysis identified 1485 genes significantly responsive to HRV infection in EpiAirway. These genes showed significant overlap with a previously reported in vivo dataset
